Beaches

Gran Canaria has almost 60 kilometres of beaches along its 236 kilometre coast, some very quiet and suitable for families and others more crowded and lively. The most famous beaches on the island are the Maspalomas beach and Dunes, Playa del Inglés, Playa de Las Canteras, Playa de Amadores, Playa de Puerto Rico, Patalavaca and Anfi del Mar. Our hotels and apartments on Gran Canaria are set in strategic locations where you can enjoy the best beaches in the south of Grand Canaria, in the tourist areas of Maspalomas and Puerto Rico.

Sports

The island of eternal spring lets you enjoy outdoor sports 365 days a year. Its excellent weather and extensive golfing facilities have made it one of the best destinations in Europe for golfers, with a total of 8 golf courses around the island, all designed by renowned professionals. The island is also a paradise for water sport lovers, such as surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing, paddle surf, fishing, scuba-diving and so on. On land, Grand Canaria offers a myriad of sports-related possibilities, including hiking and cycling routes, climbing, paragliding, etc. And we should not forget the traditional sports of the Canaries, such as Canary Island wrestling, the shepherd’s leap and plough lifting.

Natural environments

Gran Canaria is a World Biosphere Reserve. Despite its small size, the island is home to an enormous wealth of flora and fauna and has a very varied landscape, which has earned it the nickname of “the miniature continent”. Out of its natural areas, you really must visit the Nublo Rock in Tejeda, with its spectacular rock formations, the Maspalomas Dunes (San Bartolomé de Tirajana), a true seaside desert with a small oasis in its interior, known as La Charca (the pond), which is of great ecological value; and GüiGüi beach, the only virgin beach on the island, which can only be reached by boat or after a long, 4-hour trek.

Fine cuisine

The cuisine of Gran Canaria has a wealth of flavours and some of its typical dishes will make you fall even deeper in love with the island. Of particular note are “papas arrugadas con mojo”, potatoes with spicy pepper sauce, the star of our cuisine, “ropa vieja”, a complete meal of pulled beef and chicken mixed with other ingredients (potatoes, onion, garlic, etc.), “gofio escaldado”, a fish broth with onion and mint, which puts all the essence of the island in a single dish, and, of course, our traditional desserts, like the “bienmesabe”, made with honey, egg yolks and ground almonds, “suspiros de Moya”, lemon-flavoured meringues, and “Frangollo”, a pudding made with milk, millet or maize flour, lemon, eggs, sugar, butter, raisins, almonds, and cinnamon.
